WEEK 2

Old Testament Edition: Job 42:2

No purpose of God can be thwarted!!! What a great thought. What does that mean for your trust in God’s work in your life?

New Testament Edition: Titus 3:8

The fuller context of this verse is important to know. Meditate on how God’s good grace to us, produces good works in us.

WEEK 3 

Old Testament Edition: Psalm 19:14

Pray this verse this week for you’re your inner heart  and your every word.

WEEK 1

Old Testament Edition: 1 Chronicles 29:10

Dwelling on this verse reminds us that to bless the Lord means to ascribe glory, thanks and praise to him because of His rich blessed state and the ultimate source of blessings.

New Testament Edition: Colossians 2:9-10

Because we are in Christ we have been brought to fullness. Think about what that means according to Scripture.

WEEK 2

Old Testament Edition: 2 Chronicles 16:9

This week dwell on this verse and what it says God is doing. Think of why he does it and what He may see.

New Testament Edition: 1 Thessalonians  4:1

This verse encourages us to walk more and more in the exercise of grace daily. In every duty! What area needs you to be a grace giver this week. Think and act.

WEEK 3 

Old Testament Edition: Ezra 7:10

What do you set your heart on to grow in? For everything you know in God’s word, how much do you apply?  What is the ratio?

New Testament Edition: 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

Count the way’s God’s power has helped in times of need.

WEEK  4

Old Testament Edition: Nehemiah 8:8

Do you read and dwell on God’s word in order to make sense? Ask the Holy Spirit to make rougher passages to be cleare and study it diligently

New Testament Edition: 1 Timothy 3:14-15

Dwell on how one ought to behave in the household of God. Not the building but with God’s people.

WEEK 1

Old Testament Edition: Ruth 1:16

Ruth expresses her deep and determined loyalty and love to Naomi. Especially in forsaking the Moabite gods and embracing Jehovah God alone.

New Testament Edition: 2 Corinthians 4:5

It is good to dwell on this boasting! It keeps us humble and focuses us on the right thing.

WEEK 2

Old Testament Edition: 1 Samuel 13:14

Consider the seriousness of Saul’s sin and the proceeding judgment of God. Remember and rejoice in the saving power of Christ.

New Testament Edition: Galatians 2:16

To be justified means God says your standing with him is just as if you never sinned and just as if you always obeyed- because of Jesus

WEEK 3 

Old Testament Edition: 2 Samuel 7:12

The promise to David about his offspring is another prophecy of the coming King- Jesus Christ. The establishment of Jesus kingdom, is a hope held promise for believers today.

New Testament Edition: Ephesians 4:1-3 (2 Weeks)

See the “therefore” at the beginning of the verse?  What is it referring to? Consider the calling of the Christian here. What is the calling mentioned previous to this verse?

WEEK  4

Old Testament Edition:  1 Kings 9:3

“Men cannot make a place holy, yet what we, in sincerity, devote to God, we may hope he will graciously accept as his”  Matthew Henry

New Testament Edition: Ephesians 4:1-3 (Second week of two)

What does it mean to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bonds of peace? Are you eager to have that? Do you pursue that in your everyday living?

WEEK  5

Old Testament Edition:  2 Kings 17:22

In the Old Testament narrative, here explains the reason for Israel’s exile. God, with his disciplining hand of judgment, desired their repentance. Have you departed from your life’s sin today?

New Testament Edition Philippians 1:21

This biblical perspective carries a lot of hope about both life and death. Consider the results of living in this truth for your life

WEEK 1

Old Testament Edition: Number 14:22, 23 (Second week of two)

This is the judgment of Israelites who had seen God’s saving power in the exodus of Egypt, yet failed to revere Him as their God through disobedience.

 

 

New Testament Edition: Acts 1:8

Evangelism in the early church was to ignore cultural prejudices and national biases. Christ was to be the foundation of the new “holy nation” of God’s elect whom he loves.

 

WEEK 2

Old Testament Edition: Deuteronomy 18:15

Moses himself was a type of Christ. This is another promise of a “new prophet” who the people would listen to

 

New Testament Edition: Romans 1:16:17

This verse is the theme for the book of Romans. It is the very Gospel truth we need to preach to ourselves everyday.

 

 

WEEK 3  

Old Testament Edition: Joshua 24:14

Israel had finally possessed the promised land.  The Israelites were reminded of God’s faithfulness. In view of this, Israel was exhorted to worship, serve and obey God alone!

 

New Testament Edition: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (2 weeks)

“But we cannot hope to sow to the flesh, and reap everlasting life. They are reminded what a change the gospel and grace of God had made in them.”  Matthew Henry

 

WEEK  4

Old Testament Edition:  Judges 17:6

This verse summarizes the book of Judges well. And humanity when it rejects God.

 

New Testament Edition: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (Second week of two)

“The design of the Apostle, however, is to humble them, by calling to their remembrance their former condition; and, farther, to stir them up to acknowledge the grace of God towards them. “ John Calvin

JANUARY

Often, memory verses are all about personalizing it to our lives, but there are times when the truths of those memory verses are good to have in our hearts, ready for the Holy Spirit to remind us in those moments in life when we need them. Some of the verses chosen are not always those one would consider worth thinking about or memorizing; but with practice, asking questions, and meditating on God's Word, some rich encouragements and Biblical truths can come.
My favorite quote on meditating on Scripture is from J.I. Packer:

"Meditation is the activity of calling to mind, thinking over, dwelling on, and applying to oneself the various things one knows about the works and ways and purpose and promises of God.

It is an activity of holy thought, consciously performed in the presence of God, under the eye of God, by the help of God, as a means of communication with God.

Its purpose is to clear one's mental and spiritual vision of God, and to let his truth make its full and proper impact on one's mind and heart.

It is a matter of talking to oneself about God and oneself.

It is, indeed, often a matter of arguing with oneself, reasoning oneself out of moods of doubt and unbelief into a clear apprehension of God's power and grace."

WEEK 1

Old Testament Edition: Genesis 3:15.

This  verse is the first prophetic utterance about  Christ in Scripture.   It is good to remember the victory of Christ over Satan when “he shall bruise your(Satan’s) head. 

New Testament Edition: Matthew 16:16

Meditate on the fact that Jesus is Christ- the Son of God. It is a title of Jesus that can cause our hearts to worship. Don’t lose that awe just because the phrase is familiar.

WEEK 2

Old Testament Edition: Exodus 6:6

This is the Passover promise that foreshadows the greater deliverance that Jesus Christ provides. Remember the Gospel blessings in this verse.

New Testament Edition Mark 10:45

Christ proclaims the very reason he came- to serve and to suffer for a greater cause than the disciples understood. Dwelling on this fact should humble our hearts and motives.

WEEK 3

Old Testament Edition: Leviticus 19:2

Christ is pictured in each sacrifice and ritual. God’s people can only be holy because of Christ.

New Testament Edition: Luke 19:10

There is hope found in this verse. For Jesus has come to find those who are lost in sin.

WEEK 4

Old Testament Edition: Number 14:22, 23 (2 weeks)

In the OT narrative this is the judgment of Israelites who had seen God’s saving power in the exodus of Egypt, yet failed to revere and Him as their God through disobedience.

New Testament Edition: John 10:31

If you ever doubt that Christ claimed to be God, realize the Jews thought Jesus blasphemed. That is why they were going to stone him.
